This title sequence is for Jennie Livingston’s documentary Paris is Burning (1990) which is about drag balls and “house” culture in New York City in the 1980s. It interchanges between footage of ball competitions and interviews with drag queens who have built their own communities after facing racism, poverty, and being socially shunned. The title sequence was made as a class project and is inspired by the costumes, materials, and textures in the film.
